Incorporating projection mapping into the environment as a medium to display art without physically affecting the public space.
As part of my individual capstone course, I was tasked to design something that would address a wicked problem. I looked into graffiti and community art in public spaces that physically alter and even damage the public environment. Community artworks that don’t relate to the space that they’re in.
My design intervention would incorporate projection mapping into the environment as a medium to display art without physically affecting the public space. I chose the iconic round Canberra bus shelters as my location where I'd implement my intervention, showcasing art that relates to the historical and cultural significance of the bus shelters and the specific locations that each one is in.
What I created:
1. Projection Video - A looping projection video explaining my design problem and intervention, along with showcasing my final art designs that would be seen in the bus shelters.
2. Community Art Gallery - Photo prints of community graffiti that I’ve photographed around Canberra as part of my design process.
3. Projection Testing Video - A looping video of my testing process with projecting the photographed community graffiti onto the bus shelter.
4. Curved Projection Screen - A curved surface that will mimic the curvature of the bus shelter, which will be a surface to show the projection video.
