Getting older, you can start to lose a sense of who you are; revisiting the past is one of the ways to understand where you are and the person you are now.

I started this major project with the aim of exploring my identity and wanting to capture a part of myself in the photos. I ended up with the theme of “Identity through Place and Object”, capturing spaces that hold meaning to me, combining them with objects that correlate with that location. Identity can be found in familiar locations that are connected with past memories.
I went and captured areas of Southside Canberra, specifically Conder and Lanyon. This was where my family and I resided for 7 years when we first moved to Canberra. I revisited places where I would hang out when I was growing up there, photographing these spaces for my collection. Coming back to these places now, they hold significance to me because of the countless memories that I’ve created and that are connected to these spaces.

Nostalgia is such a powerful feeling because it connects with us on a personal level. You usually experience it during times of change, uncertainty, or stress. Remembering what we’ve gone through and the things we’ve done can bring comfort and stability during those times of change.
When you look at these photos, maybe you can find a connection to your past in some way that can bring comfort to you as well.
